This is Book 2 in the Scepter and Crown series! If you’re planning on reading the first book, Blade of Ash, but haven’t yet, you might want to avoid reading the synopsis for this one due to spoilers.
I had the chance to help beta read Shield of Shadow, which is the companion prequel novella to the series. It’s available exclusively through Catherine’s newsletter, so you can read it there!
The preorder link isn’t available yet, but you can mark the book as to-read on Goodreads.
Just a heads-up that even though this book was written by a Christian author and is clean, it does contain magical elements. I know that’s not a problem for many of you, but I just wanted to put that out there just in case.
About the Book
The enemy is dead. The battle has only just begun.
Red and Aly thought they had eliminated the greatest to their lives, but as they return from their trip north, a new enemy rises from within their own ranks, threatening to rip Red and Aly apart.
Lord Benedict Alexander has a distant claim to the throne, and he will do everything in his power to usurp Red’s rule before the official coronation at summer’s end. Convinced Red was corrupted by his trip into the Canyon, Lord Alexander fights to destroy Red’s kingship, and with it, Red’s Binding to Aly.
Now Red must earn the trust of his countrymen, not only to retain his throne and continue his fight against Kassia and the Canyon, but to keep Aly as well, for Aly is bound to serve the crown, no matter who wears it.
Fight for the crown. Fight for love. Or lose them both.

Wowww, really?! I know the hardcover had a big sale on Amazon some time ago. The ebook was also free at one point! If you don’t own it yet, I’ll make sure to give you a heads-up if there’s another sale. 💗 But honestly, I think we need to both lament our impossible TBRs. 😂

RIGHT?!?! Now you need to see the first book’s cover, too! That one is my favorite! It’s called Blade of Ash. 🙂
I’ve mostly been well, and I’m thankful! How are you?? Is there anything I can pray for you about?

Ooo, now I’m intrigued!
Good to hear! I’ve been doing well (I just finished formatting my story, so I’m also relieved lol.)
Ah, thanks so much for asking! Growth in God’s Word this year would be greatly appreciated.
How can I pray for you?

Great job! How do you format a book? I’ve always been curious to know.
Could you help pray the same for me? 🤗

How much time do you have? XD
In short, a lot of indie writers use Microsoft Word to straighten out the text, add fancy chapter headings, and resize the pages according to their print-on-demand company’s specs. However, no on in my family uses Word, so I went looking for alternatives (which led to Affinity Publisher and Scrivener; the first one having a bigger learning curve, while Scrivener does a lot of it automatically for you.) So far, I like both because they each offer certain features that the other doesn’t have.
Anyway, there’s a ton of videos (mostly for Word) on how to add page numbers, resize pages, insert Table of Contents, etc. Lol, sometimes it makes your head spin.
Definitely! I’ll be praying for you 🙂

😂😂😂 As the saying goes, no one finds time for anything. One can only make time for things.
That sounds super complicated! I feel slightly more knowledgeable, though. 😂👍 Thing is, I do technically have an entire course on Microsoft under my belt, but somehow I’ve forgotten everything beyond the basics. Oops!
God bless you! 💗

Hmm, so true. I need that framed and on the wall XD
Lol, yeah, after saying all that, it is rather complicated. I feel ya! I went through the basic formatting tips with my first story, and when it came to this one, I completely forgot what I was supposed to do (the upside to bookmarking every video lol.)
God bless you too!

Well, if you want the original, I think it’s this: “You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.” 😊
Interesting! That reminds me a little of how I forgot how I did certain things here on WordPress, too. I think I’m getting the hang it it all, though! So glad I chose WordPress over the other platforms.

Ooo, I like it phrased that way too….maybe I’ll do both XD.
Yes, I love using WordPress now (when I started out it was kinda overwhelming lol.) What made you choose this platform?

Haha, the original is much better than my previous recollection of it!
Hm. I watched some YouTube videos comparing different platforms. Then I asked other bloggers about their opinions. In the end, I was super conflicted between WordPress and Wix. I chose WordPress because more people seemed to it, and I liked how the themes looked.

I see. I read articles before deciding on WordPress (that, and a lot of the bloggers I followed used it. Seemed like a logical choice.) 🙂
