✵ Quotes│Once I Knew by Victoria Lynn

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Victoria Lynn’s new book, Once I Knew! It released on June 22. I have yet to write a review because I have some conflicting thoughts about it, but I did mark plenty of good quotes and thought I would share!

[O]ffering a prayer was never an idle gesture.

You are a woman who has shown me what it means to be called by destiny at the hand of God and walk in it.

But even farther into the vision he saw a little boy, the gold circlet on his forehead, his brown locks flowing around it and his amber eyes wide, large in his small face and full of tears and longing. Devoid of a mother and nearly without a father. A heart broken beneath the weight of his loneliness. Like a sapling bent underneath the weight of its leaves, having grown too fast for its roots to hold, he toppled over and fell from the calling and destiny that had been on his life.

Doing the right thing did not always mean it was done without fear.

The flame died beneath her efforts, and she stumbled backwards, falling to the ground, the stars her only view. Their lights were bright, twinkling in the black sky, every one she knew had a name. Had been formed by the hand of her Creator. It had been a long time since she had looked at the stars. Admired them. Praised their Maker.

But then, they too were gone.

“I only did what anyone ought to do.”

“But no one would.”

He had better put this just the right way in order to get past it, but he didn’t want to be her cousin. Even if it was just make-believe to keep them out of trouble. She was too beautiful… “We look nothing alike. How about I am from Wood River, and I am a friend of your uncle, here to learn how to farm?”

She remembered her father’s tears, her mother’s cold, white hand, and the perfect, tiny, porcelain face of her still-born baby brother.

No memories. No recollection of who he was, who he had been. No images of family, faces, places, or anything in between. He clenched his jaw as a feeling of failure overcame him. He so desperately wanted to remember.

She stood there, brokenness swirling around the empty kitchen lit from the warm light of candles and the fire burning in the hearth. But this time the pain was healing. A release. Another surrender. A heart yearning.

Yearning for hope.

I mean! How beautiful are these?! Please do think about checking Victoria and her writing out on her website and/or on social media (did you know that she also makes gorgeous dresses?!). Has anyone else read Once I Knew? Or are you thinking about picking up a copy? Do you ever usually read non-magical fantasy? Looking forward to your answers! 😊

  1. Ooo, these are beautiful, Lily! I hope to see your review of the book someday 🙂
And yes! I have read some non-magical fantasy books (usually for MG) and they were fun. What’s your favorite one?

    1. Thank you so much, Lillian! (Would you also prefer to go by Lily?) Fingers crossed that I get to it soon! 😂

You thinking about The False Prince at all? 😏 I’m sure you’ve already heard plenty about it, but I enjoyed that series! There’s also another non-magical fantasy series by another Christian author, Amber Gabriel. I read the first book in her series, A Crack in the Rock, and it was super immersive and well-researched and exciting. It also has a Middle Eastern vibe, which was definitely special!

      1. Oh sure thing! Actually, Lily is my real name (for my pen name, I just did a variation of it lol.)
        I hope you do!

Haha! My sister introduced me to the series awhile back and I love it! Have you read the fifth book?

Ooo, I haven’t heard of that author, but I’ll have to check out her works!

        1. Oh! I just also found that out on your website’s About page. It’s actually pretty complicated for me. Lily is my real name, and it’s also the name I almost always go by online. In person, though, I usually go by my middle name!

No, I haven’t, actually! I own it (I don’t own the others), and the cover is super beautiful. I just haven’t gotten to it yet.

          1. Lol, I see. In real life, my sisters sometimes call me by their chosen nickname…’peasant/plebian’ XD

Oh, I hope you get to! I’ll be over here with tissues if you need it 🙂

          2. No way! I had a friend who used to call everyone “plebeian”. 😂

Oof, okay! I’ll most likely read it for a “series end-er” challenge I’m doing. I’ll update my Goodreads when I do!
